Early Experiments #1: Cellular Automata v Orchestra 2
One of Jem Finer's experiments, while researching ways in which to compose Longplayer, was to use Cellular Automata to generate scores. Sometimes using just one CA, and other times several in parallel, orchestras of Cellular Automata, each cell was mapped to a midi note which was fed into a sampler, triggering various different sounds.
Recorded in 1996.

In 2003 Jem Finer began inviting artists and musicians to choose a 10 minute section from Longplayer's past, and to use it, in any way they chose, to make a new piece of music.
Recorded in the autumn of that year, these two tracks made by Robin Rimbaud are now available for the first time. A share of any earnings from these tracks help keep Longplayer playing; thanks to Robin for his generosity.
